How To Resize a Photo for a Desktop Picture?

How to resize a photo to fit for a desktop picture, on my 12 in laptop?

You really don't need to resize it. Just set it as your Desktop Background in System Preferences and it will resize it to fit on your Desktop. If you were to manually resize it in advance, to say fit the exact pixel dimensions of your screen, then the result would be the same. You'd just be doing the work in advance instead of letting the system do it for you. The disadvantage to that approach is what if you change your screen resolution? By leaving it up to the system to scale the image, it will scale it appropriately in all cases.
