I bought an iBook g4 a few weeks ago from someone and it has been good until this morning I went to turn it on and the grey screen with the gear took longer then usual and then it got stuck at the blue screen. It will take about 10 minutes to get to the starting mac OS X steen and then freeze there. I have tried almost every thing. I want to restore my iBook but the drive in the computer is a cd and the disk is a DVD. What can I do to restore my computer.

iBook g4 not booting os

You need to use the discs that originally came with the iBook to restore it. But I have a feeling you don't have them -- right? That's typical of a used Mac sale. Always get the restore disc. Otherwise it is like buying a used car with the hood welded shut.
You should take it to a shop and have them take a look.
I do not have the restore disks that came with the machine but my neighbor has the same ibook g4 and she let me borrow her disks and it won't work because it doesn't have the combo drive. can i copy the disks some how? I have tried to just copying them as an image in disk utility but that would not show up when i held option while starting the mac.
You can do that, yes, but it is tricky if you don't know how. And I'm not sure an old iBook would support booting from a USB drive anyway.
I'd take it into a shop. That's probably your only real option.
how much would this cost to do?
I don't know. Try a Genius Bar first, and maybe they can see something easy they can do for free. Otherwise, get a quote.
OK. Thanks for your help. I am pretty good with newer macs but I am completely lost on this ibook.
I am at the apple store now. They gave me a free copy of tiger to put back on it and i am installing it now.
