Is There a Way In Photos To Eliminate an Objectionable Item In a Photo?

If there is a pail or pole in the photo and it ruins the shot, can I get rid of it without having to buy another editing program?

Maybe. You can use the Retouch tool to try. Here is a video about it: Retouching Photos.

Whether you are successful or not depends mostly on the size of the object, and how even the surrounding background is. Also, probably, how much time you are willing to put in to working on it.

Other tools like Photoshop, Acorn, Pixelmator, etc, have more retouching tools with other options. But none are magic. You'd have to have a good photo to work with and put work in there too.
