I am new to mac, got my new Macbook Pro last Wednesday (10/13/10). I love it.
I came across rumors for new OS potential release soon, “Lion” so my question is does Apple usually offer free upgrade to new mac purchases (1-6 month window), or will I have to upgrade like everyone else. Just curious.

New Mac user: Rumor of Mac “Lion”

Apple almost always announces new versions of Mac OS X more than a year in advance. So if Lion is announced on Wednesday, chances are that it won't be ready for release until late 2011 if not 2012. The reason for this is that there are thousands of software developers and hardware manufacturers that need to work with Apple during development of a new OS. So Apple announces the new OS and makes early versions available to developers while they continue to work on the new OS. That has been true of every Mac OS X release. Microsoft does the same thing for Windows.
When the time comes, Apple may offer a short window of "buy now and get Lion free when it comes out" but it is too early to tell.
Thank you Gary.
BTW, I gone thru most of your videos related to Mac, Mac OS, and applications. Thank you for having those available. It was great reviewing them and learning quickly. Some of your videos may have tipped the balance towards me buying a Mac. I am happy I did. Thanks again!
Thanks!
