Is there a way to move a tune from a podcast download into my music library? I have tried unsuccessfully to drag it there.

You can't move it while in iTunes because it is part of the podcast rss feed and therefore associated with that no matter what you do.
You can, however, find the file on your drive and then convert it to another mp3. Then bring it back in. That should do the trick.
