Can I Use a 2010/09 iMac As a Second Monitor?

I would like to purchase a 2010/09 iMac & use it as second monitor with my late 21.5″ 2015 iMac, which is not a 5K or 4K, & what cables would I need.

Many Thanks.

Apple has a page on that: Use your iMac as a display with Target Display Mode. It says you just need a Mini DisplayPort cable. A Thunderbolt 1 or 2 cable would also work, but is overkill for just running a display. Mini DisplayPort cables are cheap.

But have you looked at prices? I would think that you can get a much better deal buying a brand new monitor instead. Plus the monitor may take up less space and power. Plus it would be a 2018 product instead of a 2010 product with years of wear and tear. Something to consider.
