is there a way with imac / macbook to create a custom alarm. for example, to have an alarm/message pop up every 2 hours with a specific reminder?

What do you want to do, specifically? You can set alarms in iCal for all sorts of intervals. And you can have them run scripts to do anything -- like play a song or a sound file, etc.
would like to set regular alarm for example at every 2 hours to take a break......
You may want to look for a third-party application for that. I'll bet Alarm Clock Pro does it. Probably many more.
I just downloaded the Apimac "timer" program. Works very well!
