Double icon of the same application in Launchpad.

I recently noticed that the “Skype” icon exists twice in the Launchpad screen. The only thing that I remember doing recently regarding this app, is downloading & installing the last update.
Could this be the reason behind the double icon?
Is there any way to fix it?

You must have two versions of Skype installed. Look in your applications folder. They might both be there, or one might be inside a subfolder. Figure out which one you want to keep -- probably the most recent -- and then delete the other.

I noticed the same thing, two Skype icons in Launchpad. When I ran each of them and selected About Skype" they displayed the same version number.

Oddly enough, when I looked inside my Applications folder, there was only one occurrence of Skype.app (and I couldn't see any subfolders containing Skype). Searching via Spotlight only turned up one occurrence, as did the command "mdfind Skype.app"

How about this: Launch both versions. Then look in your Dock and you should see both running. Control+Click on each one and choose Options, Show In Finder. This will show you where each one resides.

After clicking each one of the two "Launchpad" icons, I see only one "Skype" icon on my dock. Moreover, my Applications Folder contains only one icon, as Mr. Fuhr mentioned before. What about now?

Perhaps you have an alias to the same application somewhere? You might just have to do a file-by-file search in your Applications folder. Also check your local user/Applications folder too.

Agree with Gary. Had same situation with Adobe Reader. My system (MacBook Pro/Lion) still had/has the old one, but knows to run the newest. Click and drag the older version icon to "Trash" -- and don't worry about it until you run out of gigabytes or have a fetish about "I don't want this older version lurking on my drive" - in which case - uninstall *all* Skype versions, then re-download. It's either "free" - or you have a password for upgraded (toll) version(s).

    I figured out at way!

From you applications folder, put Skype in the Trash. Then, open up your Trash, control-click Skype and select "Put Back". Close the finder and open launchpad. You should now have only one Skype icon.
