External drive encryption with OSX 10.7 (LION)

Will machines running older versions of OSX (i.e. 10.5) be able to view drives encrypted by 10.7 (given you know the password)?

    What are you doing to encrypt the drives?
    Are you using the new whole-disk (FileVault) encryption? In that case, probably not. I'm pretty sure those drives would then only work on Lion.
