File sharing between os 8.6 and os 10.6.7

I want to export old quicken transactions from my old Mac os8.6 to my new Mac os 10.6.7. I have connected the macs with a Ethernet cable. I have enabled file sharing on both macs. The new Mac cannot see the old Mac when trying to connect to the old mac

You won't be able to create a network by simply running a cable between them. If you want to do it with networking, then they should both be connected to the same router -- not directly to each other.
A better way might simply be to use a USB flash drive. If you don't have one (they seem to give them away nowadays) you can get a very cheap one and use that to caddy the files from one machine to the other.

The problem on the old Mac os 8.6 the USB is 1.1 while on the new Mac os 10.6 is 2.0

So? Transferring to the Flash drive will be slow, but it sounds like you just need to transfer some small files this one time. So what if it takes a few minutes?
