There's no way to customize it. It lists every app it can find in the Applications folder. If your issue is finding things in a long list, you can always use the keyboard to jump around. For instance, clicking on Open With to bring up the list, you can press "M" on the keyboard to jump to the apps starts with the letter M.
Thank you, I had noticed you could change the list in earlier versions, but, sadly I guess not now.
Londa: I don't remember any way to change the list previously. Do you remember how that worked? What did you do to edit the list?
You need to get to ~/Library/Preferences/, you can get there with the Go to Folder (Command+Shift+G) option, or by the instructions below:
Open your Home directory
Open the “Library” folder
Find and open the “Preferences” folder
Once you are in the proper folder:
Locate “com.apple.LaunchServices.plist”
Rename “com.apple.LaunchServices.plist” to “com.apple.LaunchServices-backup.plist” or just relocate it elsewhere (you can delete it completely if you aren’t worried about backups)
Londa: All that does is to reset the list. Your original question was how to modify it, which I assumed means you want to only list the apps you want there.
Thank you Gary, I didn't read very carefully! I did want to modify, not reset!
