How Do I Add a Date In the Header Of Numbers Sheet?

In order to indicate the last version of a Numbers sheet (latest version) I like to add a (changeable) date field either in the header or footer field

One way, depending on what you want to accomplish, is to create a text field and place it where you like on the sheet. Click on it to select the sample text inside and you can type text, or use Insert, Date & Time. Then when you update your sheet also update this text field.

Or, you could create another table. You can make tables as small as you want, so make it 1x1. Then insert a formula in it that will put the current date or time. TODAY() does the date, NOW() does the time. This will update automatically when you open the document or when you edit it.

A third method I can think of involves only printing. If that is what you want to do, then when you choose File, Print you get to the print interface. There you can click on one of three header fields and three footer fields. You can click to type in any of those and type what you want, or choose Insert, Date & Time there too. Then that appears on each page of the printout.

Thank you Gary, Option 3 is what I was looking for.

I would like to add the filename as well to header or footer and make that a template in Numbers and Pages. I was able to on my PC and the actual filename was populated when I saved the file. Can't figure how to do this in Pages or Numbers. Thx if you can help.

Ann: I don't think there is a way to do that with Pages or Numbers. Since those are Mac-only apps, which app(s) were you using on Windows to do that? Perhaps use the same one if it is available for Mac?
