How Do I Add a Group In Mail On iPad 2?

I have a group which I created in address book. When I select it to send an email in Mail on the iPad 2, nothing happens. It just places the name of the group there, but there are no names. If I try to send that Mail, it can’t as there are no names. This works fine on my iMac, but not on an iPad.

Take a good look at the accounts you have on your Mac and iPad, and which ones are set to sync. It may have to do with that.
For instance, if you have an iCloud account, a Yahoo account and contacts "on my mac" in Address Book, and then those contacts are "on my mac" contacts, but you only sync iCloud contacts to your iPads, then I could see it causing this problem.

Even once you get that sorted out, it still won't work. You can't send emails to everyone in a group just by choosing the group name; doing so within iOS Mail just gives you the list of group members which you then need to add individually. There are third-party apps (some of which are even free) which make this possible.

Thanks John. Seems to be a problem then with Mail. When I used Outlook, it was a snap to create a group & use that group name. Mac Mail is very painful, even to create a group.
    Cheers from OZ.

It's a year and a half later, and there still seems to be no solution from Apple as to how to send to a Group on either the iPad or iPhone. You can add the name of the Group in the TO field, clicking on it shows the list of the names within the Group, but when you go to send, the message says "this does not appear to be a valid email address." Is there any workaround? Adding 200 names individually is not very user friendly.

Workarounds: Use a Mac/PC to do this task. Or, use a pro email service or server to send email to groups. Or, use a group service like Google Groups or Yahoo Groups to accomplish the same thing you are trying to do by sending the same email to 200 people.
