How Do I Add an Audio Equalizer In MacBook Pro?

sound from webcasts, cds, dvds, email attachments, i.e. all input sources, is sometimes tinny, muffled, or crisp. is there an equalizer app that i can interpose between any source & any output, either the mac speakesr or external speakers?
