How Do I Block Unknown Text Messages?

How to block a text from an unknown sender BEFORE it’s sent. I only want messages from contacts.

    You can't block anything before it is sent (how would that even work?) But you can filter out those messages when you receive them.

    Go to Settings, Messages. Look for Message Filtering. Tap Unknown & Spam. Turn on Filter Unknown Senders.

    Gary,
    Can't it work the same way I block unknown callers? I've just downloaded Verizon's new Call Filter app....maybe that will help. I'm getting 5-10 spam texts every day....
