How Do I Change the Blinking Text Cursor To Something More Obvious?

Hi, with failing eyesight I would like to make the blinking text cursor more prominent. I viewed Gary’s video on cursors and can change to arrow cursor but not the one I want.

I’m not aware of any way to make the line of the text cursor more prominent. But there aren’t e plenty of other things you can try that will make all things on your screen easier to see. I’d start by changing the display resolution in System Preferences, Displays. Then also look in System Preferences, Accessibility, Display, Display and try some of the options there. Then also in whatever app you are typing with, try making the text size larger, or setting the zoom percent to something larger.

There is no system-wide text cursor adjustment — some applications (mostly programming text editors) offer the ability to change the text cursor.

I find that increasing the document zoom helps (“shift + command + .” in Apple Apps). You can also set the default zoom in apps such as Apple Pages in the preferences pane.

New macOS Monterey has the ability to customise the outline and fill colour (but not weight) of the mouse pointer for easier recognition when it moves or changes to an insertion point, or other cursor shape.
