Forum Question: How Do I Change the Find Default Search Criteria?

I want to search all types of files by filename and sort by Date Modified. Spotlight divides them in categories by type but I want them in one list. Cmd-F defaults to Search “Kind” “All”. I want it to come up Search “Name” “Contains”. Thanks Gary!

    I don’t think there is any way to set defaults. If you want to do the same search often, you may want to use Smart Folders instead.

    Mahalo Gary! Was afraid of that since it’s a two-stepper. I liked the old Cmd-Shift-F that used to get that for me. But had another two step idea – create a Desktop with your search window. Ohhhh can you make a keyboard shortcut to open a Smart Folder?

    Joan: You can put the Smart Folder in the Finder sidebar, so that’s pretty easy to access, maybe even preferable to a keyboard shortcut.
