How Do I Connect Additional Monitors?

I have a new 21.5″ iMac ordered (2017) and was wondering if it’s possible to connect two external monitors to it and have one on the left side and one on the right side. I haven’t been able to find this info on the net.

Yes, you can do that. You'll just need the proper cables. Your iMac has Thunderbolt ports for video out. This is the equivalent to mini DisplayPort for displays. So if you have two displays that accept DisplayPort inputs, then you just need the proper cable to go from the Thunderbolt ports on your iMac to the DisplayPort ports on your displays.

On the other hand, for example, if the two displays were HDMI inputs, then you'd need Thunderbolt/DisplayPort to HDMI to go to the displays.

I have a new MBP and connect it to my older 27" iMac. Apple doesn't make a cable or dongle combo to do this (USB C to Mini Display port) so they shrugged and said, "third party".
