I have an iPhone 4 (with latest update). I deleted a contact from my phone (it no longer shows up in my contacts when I type this persons name) and I deleted them from Facebook as well (because my FB contacts are synced with my phone) however, whenever I go to start a new text message when I type the first letter of this persons name, their name/phone number shows up even though I have deleted them from my contacts. How do I erase them entirely from my phone?

How Do I Delete an Entire Contact History?

What you are talking about is the "previous recipients" which is completely separate from your Contacts. This is a list of email addresses kept around to make it easier to send email.
So you don't need to delete them from your Contacts, assuming that they aren't in there. You need to delete them from this "previous recipients" list.
To do that, go into Mail and start a new message. Then start typing that email address and you'll see the list appear. Look for the name you want to remove and tap the blue circle/arrow button to the right side of it. This will take you to a screen that lets you remove this address.
But I'm not talking about an email message, I'm referring to a text message and the phone number still being on my phone.
You can still do this, though. Start a new Mail message. See if the name comes up. If it does, use this technique to delete it.
The only names that should appear when you try to send a text message are those that are in your contacts, or those in your previous recipients list. Make sure that the name is not in either.
This does not work. I'm having the same problem and I have tried everything. The name will show up as "other". Never seen this before and I want the number to go away. Any other suggestions?
I am having the same problem. I have deleted the contacts and cleared all my history closed down all my apps and even done a reset on my phone. The names still show up when I enter the first letter of the deleted contact.
I am having the same problem.now all you have to do is to restore your iphone that is the only way to remove the contact history on messages..
