I want to know the best application, or way, to eliminate duplicate docs or photos to most anything else to free up space on my MacBook Pro (late 2018) running 10.14.6 Mojave.

How Do I Eliminate Duplicate Items?

The best way? The best way is to do it yourself. You don't want any app digging into your files and deciding what you keep and what you delete.
Just start with your Documents folder and go through each subfolder. Look and see what you have. Get rid of duplicates, but also at the same time organize the files you want to keep. Keep digging and organizing. Split it up into many 15-minute sessions if you need to. Maybe get an external drive and archive some files that you no longer need, but want to have them around just in case.
Not only will this give you a better result, but you can get ideas for the future. Perhaps you'll spot a habit that you have fallen into that created excess files or duplicates. Now you can correct that habit to prevent that in the future.
I used to use "all my files" to remove duplicate items
but it is no longer available. Any suggestions for replacements?
Maggie: You can recreate it pretty easily with a Smart Folder (AKA Saved Search) or make one more useful. See https://macmost.com/recreating-the-all-my-files-finder-list.html
