How Do I Fix Not Enough App Memory in Final Cut?

You have to experiment and work the problem. Try importing them one at a time or in smaller groups. Try adjusting your Final Cut Pro settings so it doesn't create large proxy files (https://support.apple.com/kb/PH15848). Maybe try converting each one of those files from the format it is in now to a smaller and better format before bringing it into FCP. It may be the default camera format isn't very optimized for editing. Open them in QuickTime Player and export, or use some other converter.

Those are just some suggestions to start. Obviously you've got a problem with 8GB of RAM... and which GPU? But if you keep working with the files and trying different things to lighten the video files you may be able to get it to handle it.

thank you for your prompt reply. I will experiment. I must admit I was trying to move many clips at once and not having much luck. The old Canon video camera files wont move to FCPX without first being opened in Quicktime and saved.
I have now tried moving them over about 20 at a time and it is working fine. Thanks again.
