How Do I Get Past a Screen ? To Get Into My 2008 iMac?

trying to wipe drive using disc utility
when I restarted computer screen came up with a ? mark in centre
mouse and keyboard don’t work

    That means that the hard drive is bad or there is no operating system installed on the drive.

    With a 2008, I think that is too old to have the recovery option. But try it. Start up while holding Option+Command+R. If it starts doing something different, it will take a while to get anywhere as it needs to boot from online, so it depends on your Internet connection speed.

    If that doesn’t work, then a 2008 model should have a DVD drive, right? You’ll need to boot from the system disk that came with it. I can’t remember if a 2008 model did come with one or not.

    If all else fails, you’ll need to take it to a shop. You may have to in any case if the ? icon is showing because the drive has failed. It will need a replacement drive. Of course it may not be worth it for an old Mac.
