How Do I Send a Text Message To a Group(s) In My Contacts?

How do I send a text to a group listed in my Contacts?

It’s so cumbersome to individually list each member of my Contact group when, it seems, I should be able to select the Group as I do when sending an email.

I need to send texts to various Groups of people who are in my Contacts. These Groups prefer texting. Texting affords immediate answers while emails generally are answered later.

I don't think there is any way to use Groups in contacts to send a message to all of those people in that group. So create the conversation in Messages by adding each name. But once you have done this one time, you can simply return to the conversation and send another message to that same group. No need to recreate the conversation each time. You can even name the conversations in Messages to make it easier to find.

Is sending to groups by SMS supported? Most in my contact list use SMS rather than iMessenger.

Wieland: That's a different type of group, but yes. The original question is about groups in the Contacts app. But in the Messages app you can send to a "group" by just including multiple phone numbers in the "to" field when creating the conversation. And those can be iMessage or SMS.

I think that either way will allow you then to name that set of recipients with the same name as your Group in Contacts for future use.

Art: Not sure what you mean by that. Do you mean name the CONVERSATION in Messages? If so, yes.
