How Do I Stop “Junk Mailbox” From Chiming When Opened?

I get a sound notification when I open the Junk Mailbox in Mail on my iPhone 7 iOS 12.1.2.
No other mailbox makes a sound when opened. In Notifications I have chosen Sound “None”.
I haven’t been able to figure out how to stop this.
Thank you for any help you can give.

My guess is that what you are hearing is the New Mail sound. The reason you hear it when opening your Junk email folder is that when you open it, it fetches new mail assigned to that folder from the server, and then that arrives in the Junk mailbox as new mail, so the sound plays. Maybe that isn’t happening because you don’t happen to have any new mail in other folders/mailboxes when you check.

You can turn it off by going to Settings, Sounds, New Mail and setting it to None.

Or, you can leave it on. It is a valid indicator. You check a folder and you do have new mail that arrives.
