How Do I Stop the Apple Music Option From Showing In the Apple Music App?

Hi Gary, I am trying to bypass the Apple Music subscription. There used to be a ‘Restrictions’ option in preferences to turn it off, but I don’t see it there anymore.

I have found out how to switch off Apple Music on my IOS devices, but I just can’t find anything on my Mac mini. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I do not intend to subscribe to Apple Music anytime soon. Rather, I prefer to own songs and buy them as I go.

You can't. With Monterey Apple moved the restrictions section of the Music app to Screen Time. That's probably where it belongs so it is grouped with other similar settings. But that means the checkbox to turn off Apple Music is now gone. Apple needs to add it back, probably to the "Show" section of the General preferences in Music.

Until they do, you just have to ignore the Apple Music section on the left side of the app, and make sure you search only in your Library, not Apple Music. You can still use the Music app as you like, you just have to put up with some items that you don't want to see.

And suggest to Apple that they add a setting in the Music app to turn off Apple Music. https://www.apple.com/feedback/apple-music.html

    Thanks for your response Gary.

It seems that Apple is falling in love with subscription more and more over the years and that is a great pity. I will certainly give them some feedback as you have outlined.

It is a bad thing to always have the Apple Music option taking up space on my computer with out any way to cancel it

Paul: Not sure what you mean. If you are not using Apple Music then it isn't taking up any "space."
