How Do I Transfer Files To/from iPad (iPadOS)?

I tried transferring a file from a thumb drive using a lightning to USB adapter, but I keep getting a message that the thumb drive uses to much power and can’t transfer. If I use the (powered) Apple lightning to USB 3, will I be able to transfer files (pdf, Word, Numbers, etc) to/ from a thumb drive to my iPad (iPadOS). Or maybe using a powered USB hub?

The powered hub may work. Give that a try. The Lightning port just doesn’t carry enough power to run a typical thumb drive or any drive for that matter. I can’t guess whether the newer adapter will work. It may still not provide power backward to the drive.

You can also go back a step. Are you transferring from a Mac? Just use AirDrop then. Or, iCloud Drive, of course.

I think I heard that using Apple’s “Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter” will work for this IF you also use a lightning cable to provide additional power.
