Adobe has issued a security alert for Flash Player – I’m not sure where to find it on my iMac or iPad and is it the same as Shockwave Flash? I’ve done a search but neither one shows up.

Like with most software, system and browser plugins especially, you don't need to worry about where the software is installed. You never need to look at the actual files. In this case all you need to do is to update the software.
For Flash Player, just go to https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ to update it anytime you want.
Thank you so much for responding so quickly. And thanks for the information. New iMac and so many things are different than Windows.
