How Do I Use Request Desktop Site To Login To iCloud From iPhone?

Using my iPads, one with iOS 12 and the other at iOS 10, from the Safari web browser, I can login to iCloud.com and use the full functionality of web-enabled iCloud.com. However, from my iPhone 8 plus, with latest version of iOS 12, when I Request Desktop Site, it redirects me to https://beta.icloud.com/findmyiphone and that is all that I can do. Why does it work on my iPads but not my iPhone? Is this related to the upcoming release of iOS 13 and iPad OS or will it be “fixed” in the future?

It has always been this way with the iCloud.com suite of web apps and the iPhone. Apple didn't design iCloud.com to work with small mobile devices, so it simply doesn't allow you to do it. The only part it allows you to get to, as you have seen, if the Find My iPhone web app. This makes sense as people may want to grab a friend's iPhone to deal with the situation where they have lost their own. But the other apps: Pages, Numbers, Keynote, Notes, Reminders, Calendar, etc, can't be accessed in the browser on an iPhone.

The idea is that you can access everything, or at least nearly everything, using apps on your iPhone. So what is it you want to do, specifically? There are free iPhone apps for all of the equivalent iCloud web apps.

Perhaps this will change in the future. But for now, just use the app that corresponds to the part of iCloud you wish to access.

Thanks Gary for your prompt response. I was inspired by your MacMost video (https://macmost.com/use-icloud-com-on-an-ipad-or-iphone.html). I could get the tip to work on my iPads but not my iPhone so I wondered why it worked earlier (2016) but is not working now. I liked that Request Desktop view could be used for another user to login to read mail or view photos on my iPhone. Sad, that it is no longer an option.

Elaine: Yes, that was way back in 2016. Apple had a major update to their iCloud.com apps since then.

Thanks, Gary, for all you do for iPhone and iPad users. I now understand why it no longer works.

Thanks for this. I just tried to do this as well and was frustrated I could only access Find My Iphone and quickly gave up. I was trying to access a photo stored in iCloud while I was on vacation and didn’t have access to my Mac. I don’t use iCloud for photo storage off my phone as I have so many photos that when iCloud is turned on o my phone it uses way to much storage on my phone even with the “optimize storage” setting turned on.
