How Do You Change the Icon Of a Folder In the Finder?

Years ago, I was able to change the icon of my folders. Recently, I went to change a folder icon (from Get Info option). I can no longer just “drop” a new icon into the preview. I haven’t done this in a long time and I had all files with new icons prior to Catalina/Big Sur. Is this still an option and if it is how do we change?

I am a visual person (even though I am a professional musician). I like to have main folders looking very different. Sub folders I do not mind the basic blue.

You can't drag and drop. You need to copy the image -- the pixels in the image, not the file. And then select the icon in Get Info and paste.
