How Do You Drag a PDF Thumbnail From Preview Into Apple Pages?

A while back you posted an amazing tutorial on being able to simply drag a pdf thumbnail from Preview into Apple Pages. I did that for long time but have noticed since a recent upgrade on my Mac, I’m no longer able to do this drag? Message says something like no such file exists. Is there a solution to this?

I’m not sure what you are trying to do. Are you trying to insert a PDF into a Pages document? You can still certainly do that. Though I wouldn’t start with Preview. I would just drag the PDF file right from the Finder into Pages. I just tried it and it seems to work fine.

    Thanks Gary, Just clarifying :
i used to be able to drag pdf file from thumbnail view in Preview into Apple Pages. I found it handy to do quick edits using Edit Mask tool in Pages. retained all the HQ res of the original. Or i could select the part of the pdf i wanted and crop off rhe rest. Something def not working for me. im pretty sure dragging didnt work for me. i just saw a similar post from someone using Keynote https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8551937

    thanks Gary

Joe: What sort of edits were you making. Why not do them in Preview if you are already in Preview?

I’m a school teacher and often use selections from pdf worksheets i’d made from past years and insert it into a Pages doc with current year class header and minor modifications to suit current year’s needs. For example, i might only want Q1,2 and maybe Q8. i’d drag pdf thumbnail into Pages, then use Pages’ Edit mask tool to keep the parts i want… image aways looked sharp and crisp as opposed to doing screen capture.. Maybe you r right and maybe it is not best way to do it…..
    thanks Gary.

Joe: I would just duplicate the file. Then do it all in Preview. Delete the pages you don’t want using the thumbnails, and blank out sections on some pages. You could add annotations too, for putting header information, etc.
