I’m not completely certain what you are looking for. Just the icon in the menu bar that allows you to select a wifi network? You can show that, in case it is hidden, by selecting an option in the network preferences. Just select the wifi connection and you’ll see it as a checkbox.
But it sounds like you are worried about something else — maybe general connectivity? Linksys routers don’t care which kind of computer you have. A Mac is the same as a PC. You just have to make sure the network preferences are set properly for either.

Do you mean the icon in the menu bar at the top right side of the screen?

OK. Then you just need to go to System Preferences, Network, and select the Airport network. Then Look for “Show AirPort status in menu bar.” Check that box.

You can use any brand of standard WiFi router. I’ve used many Linksys routers in the past.
