How can I get the square with a movable dot adjustment tool to always display on my Mac? Frequently, it does not, and I can not figure out the reason.
I prefer this quick tool for adjusting the photo versus the detailed adjustment too.

Do you mean the one that is labeled "Styles" when you edit a photo?
At the top, you'd see Adjust/Styles/Crop/Clean Up, then you select Styles?
That tool?
That will only appear on certain photos taken with the iPhone 16 or newer. It relies on the "High Efficiency Image Capture" feature of those models. Plus you need to have it turned on in Settings → Camera → Formats → Camera Capture (High Efficiency).
However, for other photos you will usually see "Filters" as an option instead of "Styles." And you can still use the regular tools under "Adjust" to do a lot of the same things. But the cool "square with a movable dot" is only available for photos taken with the iPhone 16 or newer.
Gary, you are correct. I take all my photos in high efficiency. The issue is that "styles" do not always appear; instead, filters. I have a 17 Pro and don't understand why it sometimes is filters and sometimes styles. When I look at iInfo, the images seem to be similar in characteristics HEIC, size, etc.
This is an interesting question. I don't know the answer but in looking at apple's site it brought up another question. As stated macOS Photos App should work for photo from iPhone 16 and above. But on iOS Photos app should work with iPhone 13 and above. See article: https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/edit-photos-and-videos-iphb08064d57/26/ios/26#iphc0cdae33a. But I don't think it's correct. I've never see the style button on my 15 Pro in the Photo's app no matter what format/style is set.
John: Look through those photos and find the commonality. Portrait mode? Front/back camera? Different lens? Live Photo? HDR? There is probably some difference between the ones that show "Styles" and the ones that show "Filters."
Samual: Following that link, there is a "Note: On iPhone 16 models or later..." paragraph that seems to suggest you need the newer iPhones to get "Styles."
True. But the first para says "On models that support Photographic Styles, you can edit the Photographic Style or apply a new style to photos in your library." And the models say 13 and above. So that document contradicts itself.
Samual: Right, so I think it means you can EDIT on those models, but only the 16 and above can CAPTURE in the right format.
