How to make sleep to extra monitor

My extra monita doesn’t sleep even after I put my Mac book pro to sleep mode after I’ve done my work. This happen after installing new Lion.
I asked Mac support, but they still don’t have the solution.
Please let me know if you have any idea.

Do you have other peripherals attached as well? USB?
How is the external monitor attached? DVI? Mini DisplayPort? Thunderbolt?

    Thanks,
I'm connecting by Mini display port to extra monita.
I'm also using USB port to my external USB Hard disk and also Fire wire 800 Port to other hard disk.

Experiment with each one to find out which one is keeping the Mac awake.

My Mac book pro goes to sleep mode when I make sleep. But the problem is after my Mac Book pro sleep, my extra monitor become like a desktop, all menu docks comes up and doesn't go to sleep mode. I think if I have extra mouse connect, I can make sleep to extra monitor. But I didn't have this problem with old tiger system.
