I’ve been told that I’m going to need to sign up for iCloud in order to have iChats and do screen sharing during these iChats now. Can anyone tell me what this is all about please? I’m pretty ignorant about this whole part of my iMac. (Intel core i3, version 10.6.8) I’d really appreciate some feedback. Thanks alot.

iCloud With iChat?

You can use your free iCloud account as an iChat account, yes. You'll need to upgrade to Lion first (why not?) in order to get an iCloud account.
But you can also use iCloud with an older MobileMe account. Or, with an AOL account. Or with one of several others. Just launch iChat and go through the steps to add an account to it. You'll see the options.
Gary - what's the advantage to using iCloud with iChat?
I can't think of any specific advantage. It is just another ID you can use. If you have an iCloud account, then there is no need to sign up for AOL or something else.
Ok Gary, thanks. What if I don't want to go through the trouble of upgrading to Lion though? I'm pretty happy with how things are really. I do have an AOL account.
Thanks for the response and apologies for my late one.
If you don't upgrade then you you can't use iCloud. You can keep using things as they are, at least for the time being.
