If I Buy Movie or TV From iTunes, Can I Delete It Then Re-download Later?

Hi, if I buy a movie or a TV show on iTunes and I watch it after it downloads, can I delete and later have it re-downloaded if I want to watch it again later? I rather rent, but some you can only buy and I don’t want to fill up my HDD. BTW, the show I want to see is Downton Abbey (original UK version). Why do they create a watered-down version for us??
Also, just making sure, if I get an iPad or iPod Touch, I don’t have to re-purchase the apps, up to 5 devices, correct? BUT, what about in-app purchases? For example, I have Navigon and bought the maps for the US and Canada (in-app purchase), would I need to re-purchase those for the iPad?
Thanks for your help!

Once you purchase something fro iTunes, you own it. So if you lose it you can re-download it, yes. Same for apps.
Now what happens if that item is no longer for sale in iTunes? That is a risk. Movies could get pulled, apps certainly do. So that is something to think about.
In-app purchase depend on the developer. The developer can handle it any way they want, so you'd need to contact them. But for the most part you should be able to get that item on your other device and still own all of the content that you purchased in-app.

Ok, great info, but how do you do it? I went to the movie in the store and it wanted to charge me full price. I went to purchase history and you can't access it from there either. Any help?

    Thanks Gary!

With apps you just see "Install" or "Download" instead of the price. You say you can see it in your purchases but it won't let you download it again? I'd call Apple and ask them.

If I buy TV shows or movies from itunes, in order to remove it from my mac and free up hard drive space, can I transfer these itune files to an external hard drive, and then later transfer them back to my mac if I want to watch them again later? (i.e. rather than re-downloading them again later).

Btw, thanks Gary for all of your very helpful posts and videos!

You should be able to copy them to the drive from their original locations in the Finder. Then remove the original. Then replace it if you want to watch later.
But it is easy to find out. Experiment. Do it with one episode of a TV show and see if the process works the way you want it to.

Thanks Gary! I'll give it a try. I was concerned there may be some copyright code written in that might corrupt files if I try to copy them to an external hard drive and/or return them back to my hard drive. I'm not very tech savvy ;-)

Hello, I was trying for the information that tells you step by step how to completely delete a TV Show or movie from both the ipod touch and iTunes. That is the information I cannot seem to find. I have TV shows I have no desire to keep and that just sit around taking up space. How can one delete these completely?

So, yes, delete them in both places. Run iTunes on your computer and delete them. Then go into Videos on your iPod and delete them there too.

So I bought a movie off of iTunes. Then I wanted to rent a movie off of iTunes, but didn't have enough space. Could I delete the movie from my "videos" and re-download it back for no cost?
