Forum Question: iPad GPS with WiFi

Hi there. Am I right that the wifi only ipad does not have gps. If this is right if I buy a 3g ipad and don’t activate the 3g that I can still use the gps. If not can I use the gps if I use it with a mifi pod

The wifi iPad does not have GPS — but it does detect your location using any wifi signals it finds. So you can use all the location-based services on apps. It is fairly accurate, just not as accurate as a GPS in some cases.
I believe that if you don’t have the 3G turned on, that it cannot use the GPS. That is how it works on the iPhone 3GS. But I’m not 100%.
There is no way for your iPad to get a GPS reading from another device, like a MiFi.

not true about not reading from another device. i get very accurate readings using verizon mifi, no matter where I am. In the car or just about town. Am amazed how accurate the wifi model is without GPS. When traveling, there is a 10-20 second lag in maps to positioning.

Will the Ipad do Skype with the apple head phones with a mic on them? Video TOO?

They will do audio skype calls, yes. Just use the Skype iPhone app. I’ve tried it. But not video as there is no camera on the iPad and the Skype iPhone app doesn’t handle video anyway.
