Gary does the iPhone 3GS get slower in terms of performance and response time to launch apps, the more one loads onto it? Its 16 gb and I have 9 gb available space on it.
I find going to the go W screen is a little more sluggish than before and launching the phone or and application is also slower.

Possibly. But with 9GB out of 16GB available, then it shouldn't. I would expect that if that happens at all it would be when it is 90%+ full.
Have you tried restarting your iPhone? How about a restore?
