Gary, I have an Iphone 4 now and tried to use the camera but the shutter wont open. Rear or front both ! Facetime wont work as a result of that too.
Yes I restored it too… In India there is no Iphone 4 support and it has to be taken to Singapore which is the nearest apple support !
ANy work around or is there anything i can try ? You-tube showed someone covering the cameras that opened the shutter. I tried that too but didn’t help.

It sounds like it might be physically broken. I've never heard of this problem before, or a way to fix it using software. You might have no choice but to send it in for repair or replacement.

I have same problem, my iPhone camera shutter won't open, I did all thing but nothing new. Atlast I went in apple store in india and they keep my iPhone two days and replied " we are unable to find problem. You should Change your phone" that's Indian customer service!!! Shame on you apple. Everywhere your customer are same but might be tech is not same.
