My friend just got a new Mac Book pro (the latest).
He opened iPhoto and added some pictures. The next day, iPhoto refused to open, it is stuck at the grey screen and the little wheel just keeps turning.

What else has he tried? Has he tried it a second time? Did he log out/log in (or restart) and try it? He can always hold down the option key while it starts up and try creating a new library from scratch.
Try finding the iPhoto library. It is defaulted to store in the Users Picture Folder. Once you find it, double click that "package file". iPhoto should open up.
That did the trick! My friend option/started iPhoto and made a new iPhoto Library. iPhoto loaded after that. He was lucky, because he just added a few pictures the day before, no big loss, because he still had the pictures on his camera. By the way, this was a relay fix. My friend is in Germany and can't speak English. You helped greatly, thanks again.

Where is the users picture folder?
On your Mac, look for your users folder. It is the one with your Music, Movies, Documents, Public, etc Folders in it. It is also called your home folder. Your pictures folder should be in there.
In the Finder, choose Go, Home. Then look for Pictures.
iPhoto will not open. The wheel just keeps spinning.
