Lost All Contacts When Migrating To iCloud

Hi Gary – I have lost all my contacts – it happened when I migrated to iCloud. This is not critiCal to me, but it would be nice to get them back. Would they be on a Time Machine backup somewhere? I just went into a September backup and couldn’t see them. Any suggestions?

Are you sure you lost them? Or, maybe you just don't have Address Book set to look at them?
First, try logging on to iCloud.com to see if they are there. That will tell you for sure.
If not, then you can look in ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook to see what is there, and possible use Time Machine to go back in time with that folder open.
Getting to Library is tough in Lion. You need to use the Go menu in the finder. Hold down Option and then select Go, Library. Then dig down to Application Support/AddressBook.

    Hello Gary and other readers,
I seem to have a similar issue with my iCal after using iCloud. I have a MacbookPro, an iPhone and an iPad and the Calendars seem to be completely out of sync. Some items show up double or tripple, some disappear completely on one device and also on iCloud.com, but are still there on the other (luckily). Can you advise me on the best way of syncing? If this doesn't work, I will have to go back to iTunes syncing, where I have never had problems in years at all!
    thanks a lot!

If you are seeing duplicates it is most likely because you are syncing too much. For instance, you could have the calendar listed as an iCloud calendar, and ALSO be syncing it from your Mac via iTunes. Check your iTunes syncing for those devices and make sure you are NOT syncing them anymore through iTunes, etc.

Thanks a lot Gary, that seems to be the case indeed. I will just have to go through my agenda items to see what item is where, move all agenda items to my iCloud agenda and eventually deselect or even delete the Mac agenda.
In case of double entries I had: I still had both agenda's selected and deleted 1 item, what turned out to be the iCloud version of the item in some cases. Hence the empty iCloud agenda on iCloud.com and also on the iPhone/iPad.
