Organizing each Space differently

Is there a way to organize each of my four Spaces differently? I’d like to arrange my Desktop folders manually, say, grouped by topical clusters in Space 1, by personal priority-level clusters in Space 2, etc. I don’t find help in this regard in the System Preferences or the View menu. Any magic for this via the Terminal? Third party? Thanks.

The idea of Spaces is that the desktop is the same, but the windows are different. So having the desktop change with each Space isn't possible.
There are other ways to organize things, however. For instance, instead of having a bunch of folders on your Desktop, I would put them all in your Documents folder. Then use aliases to create arrangements of the folders inside other folders -- and perhaps the Dock to create stacks that organize them in different ways.
