If would help greatly on this question: I purchased years ago, Canon Scanner bundled with OmniPage SE software. Many changes and upgrades the program work nicely till my upgrade to Lion and Zilch. No longer operational.
Many searches online is try confusing and expensive. What is your recommendation for similar program of replace it? My current set up is:
iMac with lion 10.7.30 Intel duo core 2 1.83
MFC hardware are
HP D110a
Brother J410w

Do you need to scan, or scan + OCR?
If you just need to scan, then use Image Capture. See http://macmost.com/using-image-capture-with-scanners.html
If you need OCR, then there are many third-party programs that will do it. Go into the Mac App Store and search for OCR and you'll see them. Look at the features of each to see which one will fit your needs. I don't use any of them so I don't have any recommendations.
But before you do that you may want to check with the manufacturer of the scanner to see if they have produced an update to their software.
