Some programs look like they are open in the dock

When I start the computer, iPhoto and Tex Edit will open automatically in the Dock (I mean, the white dot is shown). How is that? Can I change that and where?

    Are they listed in your System Preferences, Accounts, Login Items?

    Thanks Gary, yes, I found the items and unchecked them. Now, everything is OK again. And I am sorry, I forgot all about the log-in items.

      Unchecking them in Login Items doesn't stop them from launching. That just determines whether they are hidden when they launch. You need to remove them from the list to stop them from launching.
