Switch passwords from Login Keychain to new?

I have a query about Keychain – is there a way of transferring all the website passwords that are saved in the login keychain and transferring them to a fresh keychain with its own new password? Just to boost security for whatever it’s worth… in case someone else is using my machine, it would not let him/her access my sites. I’m ok with having to type out the new master password each time a new site is accessed.

I wouldn't use different keychains for that. I would either use 1Password or I would make sure no one else uses my user account -- they can use the machine but their own account (or the guest one) and not mine. In fact, I would do both of those things. If you are worried that someone else using your Mac is doing something that he or she shouldn't then he or she shouldn't have access to any of your files or preferences either.

Fair point. But nevertheless is there a way, perhaps in keychain settings, to prompt me for the user password each time a site with saved settings is clicked? I don't mind filling it out each time myself.
That way, if someone's working on my machine, all I have to do is login for them, but not tell them the password...in case they do hit some site, it won't auto-login without keychain password.

Yes, you can set the permissions for each password stored in the keychain so that the keychain's password is needed each time. but web sites commonly keep you logged in for a period of time. So unless you have specifically logged out of that site, they may be able to get to it without even needing to log in again.
Always best to have others use another account on your Mac. Even if they are someone you trust 100%, it prevents them from making mistakes or changing something by accident.

My macbook has started asking me for keychain passwords and I don't know why. I cannot use my email or safari. What do I do?

You can't use email or Safari, even after entering your Keychain password? What does it say then? Is there an error message?
