Forum Question: Thunderbolt will output audio and video

Maybe this is old news but I just figured out that the thunderbolt port will send video and audio at the same time through an HDMI cable to a TV. You just have to go the “sound” icon in the System Preferences. Under output, choose “[TV Name] HDMI” Works great!

Yes, this is because Mini DisplayPort is a part of Thunderbolt. That’s why it replaces the Mini DisplayPort. In fact you can use the same Mini DisplayPort screens and cables to connect to the new MacBook Pros as you could the older ones.
