Do you mean it says you have an update, like the number next to the icon in the Dock?
The only way is to download the update.
Why would you want to stick with an older version when you know the developer has provided an update?

      Steak?
How did you delete the app? Did you use LaunchPad?

The proper way to uninstall an App Store app is to look in LaunchPad and delete it there. See episode 584 (http://macmost.com/using-lion-launchpad.html)
It sounds like maybe AppTrap messed it up. I'd see if you can re-install using the App Store, and then delete to properly to see what happens.
