What Is This Frustrating Gmail Icon?

I’m using an iPad Air 11.2.5 I use the Gmail app.

I open Gmail and below my round account photo, there is a square black and white icon with a thicker, wavy black bottom. I don’t know what it does other than make the page flicker -as if it’s done something.

Holding down on it reveals no pop up telling me what it is. I’m finding Gmail less and less intuitive.

Thanks either way, but I’d love an answer. Marie

That's the symbol for inbox. It looks like an old-fashioned "inbox" that would sit on a desk in an office.

Tap on the menu button (three lines) at the top left. Then you get a list of items. Inbox is the first one, with that some icon. Then things like Starred, Sent, Drafts, All Mail, Spam, Trash, and then all of your labels. If you tap one, like Sent, then you are viewing your Sent email. Now you can use this inbox icon to jump back to the Inbox. The reason it appeared as a "flicker" before was because you were probably already at the Inbox, so it just reloaded it.

I thought it looked like an inbox. It’s seems redundant. Thank you for solving this. mi
