Why buy a Macbook Air?

I know that’s a dumb question but it means a whole lot to me. I never had a Mac till now (got everything else that’s Apple).
But now if I want to buy an air – what are the Pros? Cons? Specially being the fact that it hasn’t got a huge hard disk space, optical drive etc!

So you are debating between a MacBook Pro and MacBook Air?
Definitely: Go to the store and play with each. That's a must, to make good decision.
    The advantages of the Air:
    Light, very light.
    Small.
SSD hard drive (fast drive with no moving parts and light power needs)
    Disadvantages:
Small drive space (part of having an SSD)
No firewire (do you need firewire, though?)
No optical drive (maybe you don't need it? I don't -- and you can get an external one with it for $79)

For me, the Air is the perfect portable, considering I have a Mac Pro under my desk. That has the power, huge drives, optical drive, etc.
If the MacBook was the only machine, then an Air might be underpowered. Then again, if I was a college student the Air would be the perfect machine considering I would have to carry it around with me all day.

I have been using the Air for almost a year - and I love it. I use the 11" when I am travelling and the 13" as my main computer and also run a VM Windows on it without any problems. Haven't missed the optical drive at all. The instant on - always ready for work! The native display of 1440 x 900 (MBA 13") is almost like running a 15" MB.
