Why iTunes suggests using a specific Display number

I put in a CD, b/c I wanted to import it into iTunes, and it told me that iTunes suggests I use a 1024×768 Display.
So I had to change my Display, and now everything’s out of whack. I mean the picture’s distorted.
Why do they insist that I use a 1024×768 Display?

So what was your display set to before?
    Which Mac do you have?
Is it a Mac mini or Pro with a separate external display?

      I think it was 800x600 but it's 1024 now.
It's a Mac mini 1.83, but I'm not even sure what a separate external display is. I have a separate monitor, but displays are in the system preferences.

Figure out what the native resolution for your monitor is and use that. Might be 1024x768 or could be something else. iTunes isn't suggesting that it be exactly 1024x768, just something that size or larger.
