This is a good topic. In addition to not wanting to portray a brand name in a bad light, some producers simply may not want to provide free advertising for Apple or any brand name for that matter. If all of the PC's used by the bad guys on the show 24 were Dell computers and all of the computers used by the good guys are Macs, the Dell folk might feel a little irked by that.
On a side note the reason Macs are so prominent in Movies is because a ton of video and audio editing are done on Macs. Take a look at what many studio computer setups look like. Also Apple is the King at design and Macs are just plain sexy looking in Movies.
Clearly, the most prominent appearance of a Mac in any recent movie is Live Free or Die Hard ;)
